The striker has scored three times since returning to San Siro and Cafu expects they’ll begin competing for silverware again.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the perfect character to direct AC Milan to a new era of success, based on former Rossoneri hero Cafu.
Brazilian Cafu states Ibrahimovic’s age shouldn’t be an issue either, with the 38-year-old already making a major impact in his second spell in San Siro.
The mid-season coming of Swedish striker Ibrahimovic has given Milan new impetus and outcomes have picked up significantly.
Last weekend’s 4-2 defeat to Inter was their first in nine games in all competitions and Milan reacted to this setback with a 1-1 draw with Juventus in the first leg of this Coppa Italia semi-final.
It promises to be a slow process to attract the seven-time European champions into contention to grow their former glories, but Cafu sees Ibrahimovic’s function as possibly crucial to making that happen.
Speaking before the Laureus World Sports Awards, Cafu told Omnisport: “The effect is extremely great with the yield of Ibra to Milan.
“We hope he can help Milan win huge titles like we did in our own day.
“He’s a wonderful player, a magnificent player”
Ibrahimovic won a Serie A name with Milan in 2010-11 and has also won league titles in Spain, France and Netherlands. He raised the EFL Cup and Europa League in Manchester United.
A few seasons with LA Galaxy at Major League Soccer don’t seem to have affected his enthusiasm to get a fresh European club experience, and Cafu has no doubt that the charismatic veteran has lots to offer.
Two-time World Cup winner Cafu, who won Serie A and Champions League honours while playing for Milan in his mid-thirties, said: “Age doesn’t matter.
“What’s that he still wants to play, wants to raise and maintain Milan great.”
